(1)   Arrival in Canterbury & Medway

  • The University of Kent is situated on the crest of a hill overlooking the Canterbury Cathedral and the town below. An eight-minute bus ride or 30-minute walk will get you from campus to town.

  • Once you are at the University, you will need to go the reception associated with your accommodation (this may be the College that you are a member of) to collect your room key (assuming that you are living on campus).

  • You should complete your registration in the Sports Hall. *Medway students will need to go to Gillingham building for registration. Registration will be running throughout Arrival Weekend and ‘Welcome Week’. (Please take note what time Registration runs with the University).  Please ensure that you have the following documents:
o   Passport
o   Scholarship Offer Letter
o   Financial Support Letter
o   Letter of Acceptance
o   Evidence of qualifications (If required)


  • Once you have completed your registration, it is advisable that you go the your school (e.g. Kent Law School, Kent School of Architecture, Kent Business School etc.) if there is any welcome pack provided.

  • For students in Canterbury, we highly recommend you purchase a UniRider for your travel needs around Kent. During ‘Welcome Week’, there will be a UniBus booth on campus (probably in front of the Registry) where you can get one! If you get it before 5th October 2014, it will only cost you £170 for one whole academic year (20th September 2014 – 21st June 2015). Standard price after the offer price will be £240.

*For students in Medway, everything is walking distance so bus travels are not needed.

  • Opening a bank account
    In Canterbury, there are branches of the main national banks in Canterbury City Centre (Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest).







     In order to open a bank account, you will need the following documentation:
·    Passport
·    Original letter of acceptance to the University
·    Evidence of programme of study and length of programme
·    Your room agreement which has been stamped upon your arrival (students living on campus)
·    If you are on scholarship, please bring your support letter – entails where the money will come from
·    Status letter

·        Register with NHS (National Health Service) Medical Services
With it, you’ll be able to make an appointment with doctors for free! You may register online at  http://www.umckent.co.uk/register-with-umc/

·        (Scholarship Students) Submit your COMPLETED ASF1 form to UPP (scanned or delivered)
UPP officers will brief you on your arrival to Brunei Hall about this form but feel free to ask for help from seniors who have done so.
